He is overrated for sure; but he is not a shitty filmmaker. Almost all of his films are okay and he has a few really good (nothing that great)
Memento was a great film, maybe his only truly great film (I have not seen Following yet) and the Dark knight is an almost perfect action film (I have tried real hard to find things in it to criticize because I prefer Tim Burton's Batman but I could not find much).
Dunkirk, Insomnia, the Prestige are all solid good movies. solid 7 to 8 out of 10.
Interstellar and inception are okay films but the Nolanites inflated the hell out of them which is kind of annoying.
But I do get where you are coming from; the combination of the Nolanites basically praising him as perfect and godlike filmmaker is annoying; the attacks you get for criticizing his films can make us have a harsher view of him; and you can also get this impression he is trying too hard to be like a modern day Kubrik and I get a sense of an ego out of him where he seems to be going out of his way to make things in his films seem more complex and profound then they actually are (this is most evident in Inception, which is not a profound or complex film but it tries really hard to make you think it is).
I disagree with saying he is "shitty" but I do get where you are coming from.
