The most overrated director of all time

Nolan has made some good films even great films like Momento, The Dark Knight, and Dunkirk. However the majority of his films are way too long, tedius, overly written, complicated for the sake of IQ fexing, and simply overrated. His rabid fanbase is only there because he made Batman dark and “realistic”. Yeah, a billionaire who dresses up as a rubber furry and fights a clown should be super realistic from the rabid comic book community. Pretty much anyone who makes a “realistic” or “serious” comic book superhero film gets brownie points. Bryan Singer raped a bunch of young boys but still has a dedicated fanbase who deny tons of evidence and lawsuits against him just because he made X-men “realistic”. I’m sure Adolf Hitler could’ve made a “realistic” Captain America movie and comic book nerds would be saying Hitler is a genius who doesn’t deserve the hate.

In a brief summary, Nolan has made good movies but is nowhere near the ranks of other all-time greats like Speilberg, Hitchcock, Tarantino, etc. He wouldn’t have the internet fawning over him if he never made Batman.

Agreed. The majority of his moves are tedious to watch with horrible pacing. There's a difference between an intelligent script and a script that's convoluted for the sake of being convoluted.

reply

Arguments like this are so tiresome.

Also, what does Bryan Singer have to do with anything?

reply

I see more posts like yours than posts that praise him. He's like JJ Abrams. The make some good movies and some bad movies. John Hughes was praised for being awesome even though he made a few stinkers too.

We all know, though, that the greatest director of all time is Uwe Bolle.

reply

Nah, James Cameron is more overrated. Nolan makes interesting movies, at least.

reply

Cameron shits all over Nolan. T2 alone is better than his entire filmography.

reply

Cameron is good with robots and futuristic set designs. True Lies and Titanic showed how limited he is when he doesn't have robots to work with. T2 was a big budget remake of the original with Arnie as a good guy. At the time revolutionary CGI effects have aged terribly. I prefer the first Terminator...

reply

You're on drugs buddy. T2 effects look incredible for 1991. Aliens is also better than anything Nolan has directed. Nolan's movies are all emotionally unengaging and lack any personality. His movies are sterile.

reply

Well, I have never been impressed with Aliens either (except for great set designs)... And I never said that I was a fan of Nolan's. He is overrated too, but not as much as Cameron, I think. I find his movies interesting, which is more than can be said about most of the movies today. Even after Interstellar and Dunkirk, I'm still interested in seeing Tenet. OTOH, I have zero interest in Cameron's Avatar sequels...

I have zero interest in Cameron's Avatar sequels...

You say that but you'll definitely watch them though. Cameron always takes it up a notch with his sequels.

TDK is one of the worst movies ever made, ngl

reply

He’s definitely overrated, I think Memento is his best movie, I enjoy his Dark Knight trilogy but I’ve never made it through Inception without falling asleep and I thought Interstellar and Dunkirk were boring as hell.

The Prestige was pretty good though.

And I agree with the poster who said James Cameron is much more overrated.

reply

True. Realistic superhero movies? A billionaire dude donning a rubber suit and talking with a ridiculously gruff voice is realistic? Inception, Memento and Interstellar are mediocre.
