He is the best character in Jericho but ...
SPOILER ALERT!
It's a shame he died! Seemed such an unfitting end to be shot like that and die on the kitchen table.

shareI'm a new fan of jericho and just caught up on the first season having just finished the season finale 10 minutes ago and I'm shocked they killed off McRaney. He was at the very least one of the main stars of the show. I'd like to know the story behind this. Was mcraney only devoted to the show for one season or did they know at that time they were cancelled and felt killing off main characters wouldn't be an issue? And I totally agree that the way he died was weird. He was walking behind a tank and got shot? You'd expect a more fitting, more heroic ending to this hero of jericho. Very disappointing and sad he has left the show, but I am excited for the show's return. The second half of the season was like night and day with the first half. The second half was literally 10 times better. I almost gave up around episode 9 or 10 and i'm glad i didn't because it is a fabulous show now.
shareI CRIED when I watched this...sooo upsetting. Buy my God can those three men act!!!! Gerald, Skeet, and Kenneth are both SUPERB in that episode and they deserve some sort of recognition for it :)
shareJust finished the last episode myself and I'm equally puzzled by by many choices they've made throughout the series and ESPECIALLY by not only that they killed off his character, but also how they killed him off. It simply makes no sense unless he only signed on for one season. The loss of his character without a suitable replacement is going to significantly hurt the chemistry between the characters. Moreover, his character was what kept me coming back to the show through the first half. Like I said, I'm puzzled.
shareIs it possible he didn't die??? They never showed him DEAD...and they never showed his "widow" with him...she was merely said to be "on her way".....could it be that his reported "death" was a ruse to rally the troops??????
...I LOVE this show, but without Johnston, it will not be as good....
Jake (Skeet) came out and gave that little speech of his saying that his father was dead.
Bad move on the part of the writers/producers to kill off his character, because really, who likes Gray?
THAT is what really p-d me off was killing Johnston and not Gray. Gray!!! The idiot who got shot in the gut and was fine..... So MAD!!
(but i still love the show)
I think it was a dream that he dies in the last episode of Jericho because they kept flashing back to other times. I bet he will be back.
