She was 22 when White Oleander came out, did anyone else think she could get away with looking like and playing an underage girl?

I haven't seen that.

I have seen Matchstick Men (2003), she was 24 when it came out but believably played a 14 year old in the film.

What is her secret to being cast as a minor even though she's a grown ass woman?

I remember seeing some interview somewhere, that she came to a casting session of Matchstick Men dressed as a teenager and got the part... she was great, she made the movie.
