I thought I was transphobic....

I mean I'm not sure if it's a total load of nonsense but Graham takes it to a whole other level. Whatever happened to him? Possibly there's some psychiatric issues at play? Either that or some trans person really pissed him off at some point in his life.

Maybe he picked up some bird and brought her home before it got all Crying Game?

Graham has some real raw hatred for the fuckers.

I think he knows women who were affected by trans people. He keeps bringing up women's spaces.

reply

Nah.

What it is, is that he once told a transphobic joke on one of his shows, he got called out for it, and instead of doing the *decent* thing, and saying "Sorry. Those were different times, but I now know better," he had a strop and leaned into the transphobia.

He's a silly foolish man, who's lost his friends, his career, and even his wife over his OBSESSION.

When I had Twitter, I used to follow him. I noticed he followed a lot of women's rights accounts. But on the IT Crowd, he made fun of everyone. Only one group was offended.

He followed a lot of women's rights groups, as soon as he decided to become a professional transphobe, in order to make his prejudice seem more honourable.

He doesn't give a *fuck* about women's rights. He just wants to justify his bigotry. 😠

And other groups aren't as offended because most of society by now realises that other forms of prejudice are wrong, but some people still think mocking trans people is 'okay.'

reply

Out of interest, why do you feel so strongly about trans rights?

reply

But is it prejudice when it's comedy? I've heard some pretty racist jokes from comedians where everyone laughs and there's no comedy. I remember years ago Chris Rock was hosting an award show (maybe around 2004) and he brought up Britney Spears being the judge of a singing competition. Chris Rock then said, "Britney judging a singing competition? That's like Christopher Reeve judging a dance competition." Literally no one said anything. Personally I think that's way more offensive than writing a scene in a show where a trans woman was fighting like a man.

Is that IT Crowd storyline with Renholm falling for a trans character that's got him in trouble?

It didn't seem that problematic to me. The trans woman does stand up for herself, after all.

Of course, he should have apologized for it. Any kind of humor directed at that group is pretty offensive. We are more enlightened these days about such things. i see a lot of animosity towards GL these days, and at the very least it wouldn't be quite as bad. And like I said, it would be the right thing to do.

I suppose pride was fucking with him, to paraphrase a line from Pulp Fiction.
