One of the best of all time...

His performances in G.B.H and Jake’s Progress are unforgettable and stand amongst the finest performances I’ve seen.

How did Hollywood never take note of this incredible talent?

Well according to IMDb trivia, there was this:
Lindsay was ushered to Hollywood via the Tony Award-winning success of "Me and My Girl". The movie Bert Rigby, You're a Fool (1989) was specifically designed to showcase his delightful song-and-dance talents and show-off his charm and magnetism that scored so well with audiences, but the story was rather soporific and the film, after receiving mediocre reviews, took a nosedive at the box office.

and also:
He lost out on a part in Shakespeare in Love (1998) because he had previously confronted producer Harvey Weinstein over his behaviour on Strike It Rich (1990).

But then again, really good as I agree he is, I cannot imagine what kind of niche he would fill in Hollywood. But then again - again - Dudley Moore as a comedic sex symbol is something nobody could have envisaged - except perhaps Blake Edwards.

For Shakespeare in Love he was apparently wanted for the role that ended up being played by Geoffrey Rush (in an Oscar nominated performance)

As for what niche he would fill I think being a brilliant actor of incredible range would be a niche of it’s own.
