Bollywood Johnny Depp?

In my opinion, he really reminds me of the Bollywood version of Johnny Depp. (or vice versa) Not really the looks (though both of them are hot!) Both of them are among some of my favorite actors. Chooses meaningful films, a perfectionist, quite low profile, constantly challenges themselves and acquires amazing acting abilities. Love both of them!

What do you guys think are some of Aamir Khan's films that are MUST-Watch (other than 3 idiots)? :)

Agree with you. He does remind me of Johnny Depp in some ways.

To me three of Aamir's must watch films would be Rangeela , Ghulam and Sarfarosh. In the nineties aamir was so relaxed and sponataneous in his performances. Love all these films along with aamir's performances. His 2000 plus outings have been enjoyable too, with him being part of some great cinema--like the Oscar nominated Lagaan--but his performances have been good to middling, not consistent. Still he is one brave actor, daring to enter territory that others would fear to tread.

Love Rang De Basanti too as a whole; everyone performed well and I loved Aamir as DJ the superannuated college student afraid to leave college even after five years, face the real world. The film worked for me totally, well almost, except for the climax which could have been different. And in 3 idiots despite his age(which showed at points) I loved Rancho as much as the other characters; absolutely loved the Zoobi Doobi song, found it well picturized--and aamir was hilarious in the small speaking bits where he imitated a weatherman, a Tv astrologer--and the Prof played by Boman Irani--absolutely beautifully--was simply hilarious. And in the final scene he looked super hot in his specs, older, still hot.

However his latest film Dhobi Ghat sees Aamir looking confused as he tries to downplay the character--comes off looking hesitant initially, though as the film progresses , he gets into his stride. And no, i had no problems with his English dialogue delivery---he spoke like any other urban Indian, not like some BBC newsreader. Some critics criticized Aamir's English dialogue delivery. BS.

Anyway, Aamir has talked of relearning his acting skills in his new underproduction film, trying to find the spontaneity he has lost--he is one honest actor who happily admits that he probably shouldn't have done the collegian's role in 3I, and that he was outperformed by the youngsters in Dhobi Ghat, that they were raw and natural while he was too deliberate and studied.

Acting or performance wise I suppose you can compare Aamir with Johnny Depp not physically though ! As for the his Must Watch film the list goes like Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar, Raakh, , Lagaan, Dil Chahta Hai, Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin, Sarfarosh, , Rangeela, Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke, Baazi, Qayamat Se Qaymat Tak (debut movie), Earth 1947,Akele Hum Akele Tum, Dil,Ghulam and Raja Hinudstani. Its an eclectic mix with brilliant,real-to-life, historical, contemporary, fictional, American film remakes of "On The Water Front", "Kramer vs Kramer", "It Happend One Night Ago" and ofcourse what we call over the top, larger than life typical Masala Bollywood genre.
