His aunt Rosemary was born with a mental disability because she did not get enough oxygen during her birth. She was able to function at the level of a ten year old child.

In her twenties she was given to seizures and fits of rage. Her father was told that a lobotomy would cure those rages. But it rendered her with the abilities of a two year old.

The stigmas regarding mental retardation and depression were so great, that the Kennedy family kept her condition a secret for many years.

And why is everything seen through the prism of political labels? I would have called out a fellow conservative for being rude and calling people “retards”, especially a woman like Rosemary Kennedy who was born with a lack of oxygen. No fault of her own.

I think you have something there, particularly about the no boundaries. It's been said that no one was around during his and his siblings' childhood, particularly for the older kids, to say, "Don't do that." They responded in different ways and Bobby was possibly the wildest of the bunch. He does have a felony drug conviction which in some states would disqualify him from office (although felonies don't seem to slow one down for being president). A lot of his early misbehavior was to get some kind of response from his mother, even negative. If his family disowned him it's not for a mental disability but for the crazy things he says and does, such as supporting his father's killer and encouraging parents to start an epidemic by not vaccinating their children.

Yes, the no boundaries seems to fit. His mother was left widowed with eleven kids and I kind of think she lost control there. Who was going to be a strong role model for him? His Uncle Teddy? Maybe when the guy was sober…

I have read numerous bios of Jackie Kennedy and it is always said that she kept her kids away from their “wild cousins”. She did not want them influenced by all the crazy goings on.

John Jr. and Caroline turned out fine and a credit to their mother.

True, John Jr. had poor judgement that day. But many private pilots do. It gets a lot of people killed. I am sure you are familiar with the song “American Pie”. The pilot that fateful day was not qualified to fly in bad weather.

I used to be a flight attendant years ago and a lot of pilots had stories about being instructors. One said that lawyers and doctors were the worst students. They just did not take instructions well.

One instructor said that getting your license was getting a license to learn to be a pilot. I don’t think John Jr. was instrument rated. He should not have flown that evening when it was clearly IFR weather.
