Curvy is in, thin is out?

First, slim was all in and girls were doing anything to be thin, which was and still is totally annoying. Now, all of the sudden, it's in to be curvy and thin girls are getting bashed. To me, this "new" trend is just as annoying.

Why does it always have to be one or the other? Why is it so difficult for some to understand that beauty comes in a lot of shapes and sizes and that both curvy and slim can be sexy, beautiful, and healthy too. Women are just not all built the same and they never will be, it's really stupid to force an image of "what a real woman should look like" on anybody. In the end, it all comes down to personal taste and preference anyway. There is no standard of beauty.

Yesterday, I was jogging in the park and some girl kept insulting me every single time I passed the park bank where she was hanging out with her friends - she called me anorexic, yelled at me to stop running and start eating, told me to eat until I die... I am certainly far from being anorexic, I eat a lot, I have never been on a diet in my life. I just like to exercise because I don't want to be weak, I feel better when I'm able to run a few laps and do a couple of pushups. It's beyond me how it's suddenly considered "bad" to exercise.

I whole heartedly agree with you. I don't get the constant bashing and insulting of people and body types that aren't a person's preference. Or bashing and insulting people that don't share a person's preference and they've presented their opinion in a fairly respectful manner.

I'm sorry about the verbal abuse you received while out running. I would have had to go home.

And I agree about what you said. We shouldn't have to conform to what is "in", but rather what is healthy and right for us!

If that is a "new trend" - then please state ONE DAMN SECOND EXAMPLE except of a woman like Christina Hendricks among the celebrities.

Thank you a lot in advance.

I was calling this a "new trend" solely based on my own experiences, the opinions of people I know as well as opinions of people on forums that I have read.

The way I see it, Christina Hendricks and other curvy actresses like her (Kate Winslet, Salma Hayek, Catherine Zeta Jones) are kind of "trendsetters". So are the women in Dove commercials. There was a time when nobody would have dared showing women like them in a commercial - now it's different because people are becoming more and more aware of how unhealthy and unrealistic the media's image of what a woman should look like actually is.

You hear more and more people saying that a woman looks better with some curves, that bones sticking out aren't sexy and the like. That's why I am assuming that with the popularity of Christina Hendricks and the things I hear people around me saying, this IS becoming a trend. Might be wrong about it of course, I can't see into the future. ;-)

Wow, what a dork, I can't believe someone actually said that to you!

I suppose you're right that big people have it worse than slim ones and are more frequently the target of insults, but it's equally annoying to the one being targeted.
