Peaked too soon

I am one of the "George Washington" admirers, but I have disappointed by every film of his since. Unfortunately, he set a standard for himself that is too high.

I disagree. I liked All the Real Girls slightly more than George Washington. There's both awesome though...

I guess all his films are poralizing, but I found "All the Real Girls" annoying and "Undertow" uninteresting and a bit silly.

I didn't see "Undertow" but thought "All the Real Girls" was brilliant. He's definitely a love-him-or-hate-him kind of filmmaker.

I'm still unsure about David Gordon Green, but I have not disliked his films. I think "All the Real Girls" was his most commercial work and I have noticed that many mainstream film viewers liked this (i.e. everyone who didn't watch more than the first chapter of "Dogville").

Are you kidding me? Undertow was awesome! Sure it was it a bit more mainstream than his usual work but that doesnt mean that it takes away from the quality of his work. I watched both is other films and I thought they were a bit pretentious, although I did like George Washington. Hes a great director who I have no idea why he not more widely known!

I thought All The Real Girls was a beautiful film. He has an usual ear for dialogue and his films are poetic and idiosyncratic too.

Undertow was disappointing. Visually it was lovely, the dialogue itself was fine, but it was realy the concept that was lacking a little. Having said that, I would rather watch an average film by DGG than most other director, because they are so beautifully made.

Whether he has peaked too soon is difficult to say. Out of his first three, two were wonderful. That is a good ratio. With The Secret Life of Bees coming, he has very good source material to work from and it will be interesting to see how he adapts it. Though he makes films akin to Malick, he doesn't quite have his track record of three mazing films out of three.

But not many do...
