Selling out?

OK, so he's directing the latest movie out of the Apatow tent, and is now slated to direct the next movie by "Foot Fist Way" scribe (and "Pineapple Express" co-star) Danny McBride. I'm unsure about this enterprise. I'm not really a fan of these 21st century 'lower-middlebrow' comedies (I thought "The 40-Year-Old Virgin" was average at best). I know Richard Linklater did "The School of Rock" and "Bad News Bears," but he still mostly does primarily personal, thought-provoking, and uncommerical films. I hope DGG won't destroy his reputation in the this process.

"Where's Malick's 'Devil Wears Prada?"

Beats me; I don't even know where Malick is.
I've only heard of him in the context that he influenced DGG's style, and looking him up, he's only directed 6 movies since 1969 (and one's not even out yet)?

If somebody is good at their job, then they should do it. Directors should direct.
What's more, I tend to think that they should direct projects that they enjoy.
And I suspect that DGG enjoyed making Pineapple Express.

It'll get his name out into the mainstream, which is good.
It'll make him money, which is also good.

And it's a good enough movie that there's no shame in him having his name attached to it.

I'm pretty curious about how Suspiria will turn out, though.
