Don't understand the hate this guy get's

He's probably not the greatest actor around right now, but the guy churns out some great films and deliver's some fine acting.

Since 2000

Remember The Titans
The Believer
The Untied States of Leland
Stay (a underrated film imo)
Half Nelson
Lars and The Real Girl
Blue Valentine
Drive
The Ides of March
The Place Among The Pines
Only God Forgives
The Big Short
The Nice Guys
La La Land
Blade Runner 2049
First Man

The Notebook and Crazy Stupid Love, don't do anything for me. And he has the odd dud here and there. But damn in a 19 year film career (not counting his TV work before that). The guy's pretty on point. He has three films on their way to been classics imo (Blade Runner 2049, La La Land and Drive), a few soon to be cult classics (The Nice Guys) and some top indie work. The guy has one of the better C.V's on any actor in his generation. Maybe Leo is the only one to top him for great work constantly.

The place behind the pines is great movie but not because of this boozos part in it. the movie would of probably been even better without him when u really think about it. That other dude playing the cop/politician could of also been swapped with pretty much anyone else it would have made the movie better if u ask me. Im really not a fan of this dude, he is only successful because chicks dig him

reply

I get what you are saying, but nearly 19 years and you got to have more then "Chicks dig him" to last that long. The guy's got a good nose for a good project. But different strokes for different folks.

i see where ur coming from. he isnt that bad but i am not a fan of this dude

What's different about Gosling is that he seems to prefer to choose films to star in based on whether they're really interesting and unique and different in their own right, and whether they really challenge him as an actor, and not only because they have box office potential. In other words, he hasn't done the usual Hollywood thing and tried to star in every action movie and rom-com out there to be a big name. Plus he dosen't do the celebrity thing and appear on every late-night talk show every week like some people do, and he's always kept his personal business out of social media and the press. He's become popular over the years because of his unusual choices in films, and also because he's not your typical Hollywood star with typical Hollywood leading-man looks---that's what's so unique and intriguing about him.

Who hates him?

The people on this board? Go to pretty much any actor's or director's or writer's or movie's page on this board. At least half of the threads will be hateful

This is a weird website with lots of bitter, negative people

In real life he is a pretty well respected actor with lots of fans. He does some weird movies, but he is carving out his own career. He hasn't just gone the route of other leading men like Brad Pitt that try to work with every major director in Hollywood, desperate to be taken seriously. He makes more interesting choices, and that's why I look forward to his movies

reply

That was what I was wondering. He does good work. I don't know anyone who hates him.

Maybe some are jealous that he's with Eva Mendes.

reply

He's a good actor. I will watch a film because he is in it.

reply

Guess I should count myself out, but sorry, I think they're all duds. Maybe not duds, but maybe not the most notable movies.

BUT, I agree with you on the hate thing ... I don't know why anyone has to get to the point of losing it about some actor.

There's some common things about the hate that gets expressed though. Most of it here is towards women by guys who one would suppose are inadequate. Then there's minorities and gays/trans. Who cares?

There's actors I say I hate in a joking way, like donkey-face Nicholas Cage ... but I can enjoy a Nick Cage movie occasionally.

Pretty hair?

I thought he was good in DRIVE and basically had very little dialogue in the movie aside from the staring of one another as a form of communication with his neighbor(Carey Mulligan) and son.. Albert Brooks was the Best in this movie along with Ron Perlman

reply

I'm not a fan. I don't hate him. I just don't care if he's on screen or not.

reply

Maybe jealousy because he's with Eva Mendes.

Who hates Ryan?

reply

His IMDB bio page states he was born in in London, Ontario, Canada.

Is that a reason to hate his guts?
