MovieChat Forums > Idris Elba Discussion > Idris Elba walks away from playing James...

No way they ever seriously considered him for he role. He's just too old.

reply

They need to take a look at Thomas Doherty. He’s like a young Connery.

reply

I haven't seen him in anything, but yeah, he's young enough to be hired for a franchise!

reply

Don't be too sure about that. He's one of the hottest (not looks wise but popularity wise) black male actors of the the last 10 years. And you know how much these movie makers are chomping at the bit to whitewash every popular white character there is these days.

reply

Idris Elba is officially 49 years old, and while I agree that he's a damn good actor and extremely attractive, that's just too damn old to be cast in a franchise. They want to get ten years of films or more out of each Bond actor, Craig actually played Bond for 15 years. And where will Elba be in 15 years? Celebrating his 64th birthday, that's where!

Being an 00 agent is for people in their physical prime, not people in their sixties. And that's a lesson the producers learned from Roger Moore....

reply

Age is just a number. Particularly with black people. Their skin just doesn't age the same way that light skinned people do. He looks like he's in his 30s. Particularly with Hollywood make-up and lighting. But regardless, he says he's not doing it anyway. But I believe it that he was high up on the list.

reply

Why does everything need to be a reboot with a young actor? Why not have a trilogy of films that highlight an older bond? At least that would be different from the same ol shit.

reply

Actually, that is a good idea. However, film producers think in terms of series which last for many years.

reply

The last 2 Craig films were basically that. An aging Bond

reply

Exactly. He's a fantastic actor & charming as hell but it's like 10 years too late, in my opinion

They should do the same as The Batman. Meaning, Cast a young actor who will be able to do it for the next decade.

Good. 👋👋👋👋

I think Adian Turner would be a perfect Bond.

I'm against changing 007's race, but, if they're going to do it anyway, I think Regé-Jean Page would do nicely as he looks like a mixed race version of Adian.

Yeah, Turner is at the top of my hypothetical list, he has the looks, the charisma, and the bad-boy air, when the role calls for a bad-boy air. However, he's 39, and it will probably be a few years before the make the reboot... it's possible that they'll want someone younger.

I haven't seen Rege-Jean Page, but I've seen a lot of women squeeing over his role in "Bridgerton". Maybe he'll do.

Meet Mr. Thomas Doherty:

Looks like Sean for sure. Good choice... if they don't pick either of my 2 of course. 😁😁😁😁

reply

Looking like Connery isn't enough to make a good Bond!

It can't hurt, of course, but whoever they hire next needs to make bond his own, not imitate the original.

reply

It’s not just the similar look. He has the acting chops…..the charm…..the accent……

reply

He never walked towards it. He said from when they first mentioned his name that he had NO interest in taking the part.
