Former BBC News presenter Huw Edwards has been charged with three counts of making indecent images of children.

The offences are alleged to have taken place between 2020 and 2022 and relate to 37 images that were shared on a WhatsApp chat, according to the Metropolitan Police.

The broadcaster was arrested last November and charged last month, the force revealed on Monday.

He is due to appear in court in London on Wednesday.

Mr Edwards is accused of having six category A images, the most serious classification of indecent images, on a phone. He is also accused of having 12 category B pictures and 19 category C photographs.

A conviction at Crown Court could lead to a prison sentence of up to 10 years.

I remember when he got outed for sexting with men (young men who were barely legal) that many took Edwards' side saying it was wrong for a newspaper to out him against his will, that it's ruining his career and marriage, damaging his mental health and ultimately that's it's nobodies business what he does in his private life.

Well given these new developments I wonder how many are still sympathetic.

Now we know why he was hospitalized .. Bc he knew this was going to come out!

I can picture him now, being helped into Court by several people, as we hear how this has all taken its toll on him - and of course there's his 'mental health'! He'll be sitting in Court every day of his trial doing his best impression of a vegetable.

I remember when robust Bill Cosby suddenly became a blind, frail elderly man who needed help to walk. Pure bullshit.

Meh, according to this definition it may be a witchhunt.

According to the CPS website, "making indecent images can have a wide definition in the law and can include opening an email attachment containing such an image, downloading one from a website, or receiving one via social media, even if unsolicited and even if part of a group.”

Sounds like the state is given rather broad leverage to ruin people's reputations. I'd need much more information before I'll make a judgement.

He was sent child porn by another male he was talking to. No evidence he asked for it and actually told the man not to send him anything illegal.

But, he never deleted from his devices and he carried on talking to this man knowing the kind of stuff he was into.

Is that a reason to prosecute or not?

He's being sentenced in September. I'll be surprised if he gets prison time. More likely a suspended sentence for 10 years.

I think someone unknown to the public would probably get a caution.

'He was sent child porn by another male he was talking to.'

The other guy was/is a convicted paedophile. What the hell was he doing even communicating with someone like that?

It makes you wonder how these people find each other 🫀

reply

They do seem to have an bizarre knack for connecting. In any other field that kind of networking would be much lauded!
