Should do a film in english
There is a much greater market for english language films. I'm not saying he should not do french films anymore but the rest of canada is desperate for more talented filmmakers and he deserves a wider audience.

shareRather than doing a film in English, what I'd like to see is more Canadian (read: Quebec) films on "English" cable channels.
Even most English Canadian films (more often than not, created for US Hallmark, Lifetime, or Syfy channels) don't get any time in Canadian cinemas, because nobody in their right mind would pay to see it. The frequently abysmal quality of English Canadian film has really turned people off any Canadian film.
Fortunately, great Quebec film features do make it onto The Movie Network, which is where I watch it. Usually they don't dub it into English, so you get the original actor's voice, which simply can't be reproduced by another voice actor.
I have seen different-language remakes that improve on the original, but it's the exception rather than the rule. It's hard to capture the subtleties that made the original successful, or alternatively to translate not just the language but everything into something fundamentally different that works with the new actors and setting.
Of course, if Xavier did an original film in English, I'd love to see that as well. I'm sure it would be as good as his others. But I won't lose sleep if he only does French.
