In DEFENCE of James Corden

Why are so many people bad-mouthing James Corden? He’s a very versatile performer. One day it's a fat joke, the next it's one about his weight. He never resorts to shallow, childish and grotesque fat jokes. He sets an example to the youth of Britain. He says: Look, it’s OK to revel in the fact you are morbidly obese and likely to die from a massive heart attack before the age of 40. Socialise with brainless celebrity slappers while you can. He’s a great writer too ( everyone agrees his sketch show was great). He is dignified, humble, down to earth and pleasant. Multi-award winning Shakespearian actor Patrick Stewart could learn a lot from James. He’s the real joke! Leave James alone. He's the thinking slapper's buttered crumpet.

Ruth, you seem like a lovely person (and I am not being sarcastic like in the original post), but you just have to accept that a lot of people don’t find James funny and get the impression he is not a nice person (I don’t see messages of hatred on the Michael Palin boards). If you choose to defend him on every thread on this board you will be here a long time and it will achieve as much as morons like me posting messages here – nothing. James is old enough to take care of himself.

I think the reason people are making comments about his weight (myself included) is because rather than accept his weight and work around it, he tries to use it as a tool for humour, thereby glorifying his condition.

Obesity is a serious issue. Like smoking it illustrates a lack of respect for the person’s life. As sad as it is, fat people die younger and it’s no joke that James may suffer a heart attack before he turns forty. Of course, it’s up to him if he wants to live this way. Dieting may be difficult, but it can literally save your life – but what can be a more worthwhile cause of going through temporary difficulty – especially if you have children and loved ones you want to live for?

Show me a fat person who says they are happy about their weight and I will show you a liar. I know there are a lot of excuses in regard to weight gain, but as the old cliché goes… no fat people came out of Belsen. Eat healthier, eat less and exercise.

In regards to his comedy and personality – it’s just not to my taste. Personally, I prefer intelligence... Stewart Lee, Chris Morris, Bobby Davro etc.
