The first time I came across this guy was in a production of Bertolt Brecht's "A Respectable Wedding" at the Young Vic Theatre in London. He played the best man, a noisy oaf with an annoying belly laugh, oozing awkwardness, insecurity and neediness, masked by self-congratulatory swagger and strenuous "funniness". I thought, "Wow, what a great actor! He really carries this role off with aplomb."
But then I saw more of him on TV & realised he had basically been playing himself there.
Went to the Robbie Williams "comeback" concert at the Roundhouse last month, and there was Corden, looking around, checking if anyone was recognising him. During the gig he succeeded in drawing quite a lot of attention away from the stage by dancing wildly on the V.I.P. balcony and pointing at Williams in that "You're the BEST, mate!" kind of way - he actually managed to look the fattest twat in the room. Quite a feat considering that Robbie Williams, Peter Jones off Dragons Den and Ant & Dec were there, too.
I can't speak for others, but all that might give you a clue as to why I personally don't particularly like James Corden.
