Viacom are robbing Dave Chappelle by allowing HBO Max to stream his show without paying him.
He didn't get paid after breaking his contract, a contract he signed but walked out of midway through in the past. Yeah, doesn't seem right right now after all these years that he accepted not getting paid but they're still trying to squeeze every bit of cash of his comedy to the masses by still not paying him after the fact.
Oh, I agree - I'm just saying it's all relative. Actors are by far more overpaid - hedgefund managers and other 'investors' are getting the bulk of all the money in the world ^^
The world is shitty, shitty place -
shitty for the coal miners. i was a stupid stoner who gambled all his money into bitcoin now i am a college droppout millionaire so i cant complain much about the way the world ended up for me
dave lost me when with his bit a couple years ago that defended michael jackson diddling kids. it takes a lot to offend me but i dont think child molestation is funny especially when all he did was make excuses for it and defend the diddler.
I'm sure you remember the times of yesteryear, say 15 or so years ago, when Jackson was common cannon fodder. If anything, it was low hanging fruit for a comedian of his stature, even back then. I understand the sensity to the subject matter, but I subscribe to the thought that anything's on the menu. That's not to be dismissive of anyone else's viewpoint, just my preference.
Very few actors make that kind of money. And when a Tom Cruise type gets that kind of a payday, it's for months of shooting and doing his own stunts, followed by days or weeks of publicity tours and interviews. Obviously, Netflix thinks a Dave Chappelle special is worth that kind of money, and so Dave Chappelle has earned it, but, cripes, that is an enormous sum of money for very little effort, comparatively speaking. Medical professionals don't make that in a lifetime.
Tom Cruise does not get that type of money - he produces his own films now - he makes 5 times more. He's produced nearly 50% of his films.
By the way, you do realize that it takes around a year to write and perfect 90 minutes of material for a special via standup in clubs, right?
Maybe on Mission Impossible films he makes 100 million. Nothing else grosses nearly enough to get him that kind of cash. He probably loses millions on stuff like The Mummy, if he's producing them.
If he wanted to, he could have sold all of his new movies and not risk losing any money (netflix covers all production costs and pays extra for profit).
