He's really not THAT funny
Look I like Dave Chappelle, i'll always watch his specials. But people act if he's hysterically funny when he's not. A lot of his jokes are totally basic. He's more amusing than laugh out loud funny.

Humor is subjective.
shareSometimes. SNL over the last five to six years and The Simpsons over the last twenty years have been objectively unfunny.
shareI’d agree with you on both but I also have to realize that the things I found funny on SNL were really silly and I thought it was funny because I was young and I don’t find the same goofiness funny now. So I don’t think I can judge SNL accurately you know? Like the Fish ‘O’ Matic and ‘living in a van down by the river!’ Will still make me laugh but I think it’s in major part because of nostalgia.
shareHumor is subjective to an extent, it can still be critiqued. A basic joke is a basic joke. Like a fart joke.
shareThat's also an accurate analysis of how I perceive him. Good, but I find a lot of people funnier.
shareI think his popularity is based in the truth, transparency and honesty he speaks. He holds hypocrisy up to ridicule. As for hysterically funny, you are correct. Eddie Murphy and Chris Rock in their prime were hysterically funny.
shareHis Sticks & Stones special? I laughed my butt off. I finally found it the other day and it was still gigglin'.
shareLook at Pete Davidson s lips America
shareIf he spent as much time writing good material as he does laughing at his own jokes and slapping his leg with a mic, he might be better, but not much. There was on Netflix special where I didnt laugh once, and made loss all respect for the guy. Weed took its toll. It always does.
