shareyeah i know its not important I was just curious cuz she mentioned she took the american citizenship test but didnt say if she dropped the canadian part.
shareWhy would she drop her Canadian citizenship? Did she ever give you the impression that she doesn't like Canada?

Even if she became a US citizen, she is still Canadian by birth. That cannot be changed. Hence, she will always be Canadian.
forgotten...and don't you forget it
She can still keep her Canadian citizenship.

The last two comments are both correct. I did the same. I'm Canadian by birth and got US citizenship a few years ago. In the old days, you actually did have to renounce Canadian citizenship to take on US citizenship, but they have relaxed this. Canada still considers you Canadian even if you take on another citizenship.
shareWhy do you feel the need to keep your Canadian citizenship, since you abandoned Canada now?

I didn't abandon Canada. That's the point. My work has taken me to the US and I have been here for years, but I still consider myself Canadian and am proud of it.
During Olympics I am for Team Canada which amuses some of my colleagues!
My Dad was born Italian but actually renounced Italian citizenship when he moved to Canada. He felt strongly about breaking the ties to the old country. I don't feel that way about Canada. On the contrary, I actually avoided taking US citizenship until I could be assured that I would not have to give up Canadian citizenship, which is something I never wanted to do. So there is a distinction.
Having two citizenships actually has advantages. No matter which direction I am traveling between Canada and US, I am always returning home!!
