Magnificent Seven : Opening Movie @ TIFF

So Magnificent Seven will be the opening film at Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) and have its world premiere here so I am super excited as there is a chance that Matt may show up. If it wasn't obvious...I live in Toronto. He is not part of the seven and has a very small role though so he may not come but then again he heavily promoted The Nice Guys with Ryan and Russell even though he had a much smaller role. Fingers crossed. I will do whatever it takes to get tickets to that premiere if Matt is scheduled to attend :-D

Matt has often mentioned how the industry loves to "thin slice" actors. In his case he has two strikes against him: his sexuality & his looks. He's been told he's "too beautiful" for certain roles. We all know that 50% of the world is still homophobic. Stereotyping doesn't just have one face. Matt isn't the only one being affected by it. There was a recent article how Matt was not considered for the role in a military movie (I'll try to find it).

All Matt can do is choose a role he's offered and one he finds interesting for one reason or another. Hollywood is merely there to make money. Many of these movies have markets overseas in homophobic countries. Prejudices a deep set in our world. It would be silly of Matt to not take roles because of it. He's an actor trying to act. I doubt he will deny a role because of the politics behind it. That would be a losing battle. Personal compromise isn't always a bad thing esp when the face of prejudice isn't one person, or a studio.

I agree I may have "imagined" a particular scenario but it's not farfetched given out cultural zeitgeist. Yes we can't begin to know all the underlying baggage doesn't mean we pretend it doesn't exist or not have a reaction.
