Why didn't Robert Blake have a bigger career in the 70s?

Question, Why didn't Robert Blake have a bigger career in the 70s?

Despite In Cold Blood being a breakout and essentially proving to Hollywood that "Yep, This Guy is Legit". After In Cold Blood, Blake never really could grasp into New Hollwood, instead his most famous role was Baretta in the television series, Baretta.

reply

I always thought he was typecast as Baretta.

Wasn't he a notorious dick? Filmmakers kinda put up with it from someone who IS a major star, but no reason why they should put up with it to MAKE someone a star.
