His accent in Tokyo Drift

I usually like Southern accents, too, the drawl is sensual and charming at once. But this guy really has to soften it a notch. He's not on screen to be himself, he's acting to be someone else, and the accent is much too heavy and guttural/nasal for the general audience. It's like I was listening to a person whose first language isn't English. VERY distracting. Around 5 to 6 times worse than Matthew Mcoughnahay (not sure how his last name is spelt).
