Will Biden resign before Trump is sworn in?

Election counting is still going on, but Trump is leading and has a very good chance of winning. Assuming he holds on, do you think Biden would consider resigning before his term ends so that Harris can be sworn in as president? She'd hold office for about two months, but Biden would be able to say he helped get the first female president installed.

Do you think this is a possibility?

reply

That occurred to me too. I doubt it.

reply

Yeah, I think it would be unlikely. However, it would make Biden seem like the noble guy on his way out. Many in his own party are going to be blaming him for sticking in the race too long, and then hurting Harris with his garbage comment.

reply

If Trump does win I doubt Biden and Harris will be on very good terms with one another.

reply

I honestly thought the plan was for Kamala to take over as soon as she was declared "winner" by the media, and then that would be an excuse not to have an inauguration - to avoid the visual of the crowd numbers not matching her "vote count".

reply

Could she serve two full terms after that if this happened?

(Theoretical question)

reply

Lyndon B. Johnson could (at least candidate for another full term)...

reply

Thanks. Looked up his wiki and it said:-

As he had served less than two years of President Kennedy's term, Johnson was constitutionally eligible for election to a second full term in the 1968 presidential election

So, two full terms and as long as it was less than two years.

So kind of interesting (or pure stupidity) that the demrats did not let her take over in early 2023. This way she'd had more time to distinguish herself... πŸ€”

reply

Yeah, I agree. I'm not too bothered about US politics - thought Burden was just as embarrassing as Trump.

But when his dementia was really obviously setting in, they should have asked him to step aside and maybe she would have had a better chance if she'd been in the public eye longer.

Plus I guess not doing so must have hit voter confidence in the honesty of the democrats, as the guy clearly can't really have been running the country for some time now...

reply

True, his decline was already visible in 2022. But Jill enjoyed the White House so much... πŸ™„

reply

As a Trump voter, I was actually worried that Biden would step aside and let Harris become president during the summer. I think it would have given Harris a boost and would have removed the stigma of having a woman in power for the first time.

reply

I think the demrats knew pretty well deep down inside that Harris was a poor choice, no matter how much time she had to prepare.

reply

President Jill probably gonna fire Kamala's ass. It was a failed coup.

setting off a nuke in Ukraine might certainly delay the hand-off. ain't nothing over yet.

reply

Ha! That would be hilarious, but I don't think it's gonna happen...
