Republicans are like a hierarchical fifth column, financed by anonymous billionaire money working since the 70's to undermine the government and the democratic process.
The question of freedoms is a red herring, that is freedom is just a word that Republicans use in whichever way or context they want to distort in order to back up what are almost always disingenuous hypocritical arguments that alway have the effect of cutting taxes on billionaires and dumping those taxes on everyone else, or in destroying social and national cohesion, or in removing protections for workers or the environment in order to take from the commons and privatize their profit, while giving the least back to the country.
They don't care about freedom, they just talk about it, and that is because the anonymous plutocrats that manipulate the Republican party through the media, through propaganda designed by think-tanks on how to manipulate people, threats, or cheating ... those plutocrats respect no laws and pay no taxes.
One example is the war in Afghanistan, a sink hole of corruption and runaway costs could have paid for universal health care and universal free education, but Republicans will do whatever they need to do to withhold any investment in the American people, or the American commons, and find ways to disinvest and dump all their external costs onto taxpayers to keep them down in order that the elites can keep their games running.
Of course this is not an exclusive Republican function, anyone in our top level military, government or business/financial sectors will be supporting these goals.

Yeah, I think a lot of people don't grasp that at this point, it is basically a uniparty. They pretend to be against each other but it's all a game to them.
Democrats undermining the democratic process with election interference and tampering.
Democrats destroying social and national cohesion with this constant race baiting. It's all about division.
Afghanistan is hardly on the Republicans alone though. Numerous presidents have had 20 years of being able to wash dirty money through Afghanistan, on both sides. At least Trump kicked off ending that mess.

The part of the government that is under control of this corporate junta is a uniparty, but not the whole government. I'd say that is 100% of Republicans because they have more money and much more strict party discipline, and about 20% of Democrats with people like Manchin and Kirsten Sinema.
Republicans tamper with elections because they cannot win unless they do.

lol. Democrats tamper with elections as they wouldn't win otherwise. Just look at CA. We're seeing that in real time...If legitimate elections were held like western aided ones in third world counties with IDs and inked fingers and minimal postal voting, the democrats wouldn't stand a chance.
