It's not listed on her imdb page. Her character seemed to hit it off with Adam as well which means hopefully she might be back for a few more episodes
I really like the show and I really like Shiri so it was a nice surprise when she showed up at the restaurant

I agree if she took a "selfie" for her fiance, or anyone else for that matter, no problem. She is "grown", and allowed to make her own choices, including mistakes.
The problem comes when someone's phone gets hacked, or a former decides to distribute it in revenge for a breakup, "alleged cheating", or whatever justification they decide to call it. IMHO, that is just wrong.
If a "selfie" is passed off (and/or sold!) as a celebrity, that is also just wrong. If it is sold, mostly "the wrong people" are the ones making money from it. As an old P.T. Barnum quote goes, "There's a sucker born every minute!"
Suckers fall for faked/look-alike or photoshopped fakes. Buyer beware. Your friends will make you feel pretty stupid if/when they find out you got taken.
As for helping her career and changing perception about a person, you bet it does.
Just look at so many of the type-cast people, and the drastic step(s) taken to change their image.
With actors of the male gender, that is pretty tough to change. Is the magazine "PLAYGIRL" still around? Burt Reynolds posed for a centerfold spread back when he got type-cast, and it helped him, but that is more the exception. The TV actors playing Batman and Superman, Danielle Boone, and other older show actors did not have even that avenue to try, and could not get new jobs/careers. In fact, the actor playing Superman killed himself because he could not get work after Superman... Think of Gary Coleman (Webster) as another one; he was working as a security guard since he couldn't get other acting work.
With actors of the female gender, pretty much any old topless or nude scene or photos will do the job. Or, they can get caught up in the process, like Christina Aguilera, Britney Spears, and Miley Cyrus (formerly famous as Hannah Montana). (So much for gender equality...)
I feel certain readers can think of many more names.
As far as Appleby's appearance in GIRLS goes, the images do get out, but HBO seems pretty capable shutting down mass distributions of their 'intellectual property' (read that as their shows and movies!).
As far as Appleby coming back to the series goes, the restaurant scene in season 3, episode 1 looked like a pretty strong and permanent exit...
just sayin'
But it is a cable TV series, so nearly anything is "possible".
