why do people like Wes Anderson's films so much?

I have watched some of his films and didn't really rate them. I thought the humour was pretty wacky and off point and he filmed them in a really unnatural way. I went online and all I could find is people saying how amazing he is??? Is there something I'm missing?

I enjoyed your post.

The Grand Budapest Hotel
-This is BY FAR the best he uses the flat camera shot technique. He uses it so brilliantly here, BECAUSE HE DOESN'T ALWAYS USE IT!

Also, Grand Budapest was the first time that I know of that he messed with the aspect ratio of the movie itself (He shot the film in three aspect ratios, 1.37, 1.85, and 2.35:1, one for each timeline).

I've never seen that done before.

I remember thinking in the theater that there might be something wrong with the projector. 

If you try to overthink his movies you tend to get frustrated. If you watch any of his films within the framework of being a 6 year old kid watching an adult comedy or drama or both then I think that's the overall oeuvre of Wes Anderson's movies.

I remember having this discussion with an old school mate when talking about Wes' movies in general and I told her that my first impression was how it triggered my nostalgia of watching old screwball comedies as a child. The dialogue and plot lines were just outlines to my 7 year old ears and eyes but overall I understood what was going on, but I remember the feeling of being challenged to understand it all.

The quirkiness of Wes' stories and the set designs imply a rough sketch of an incomplete world but in reality it's a meta-world with deconstructed frames and disheveled characters where you as a viewer can reconstruct the narrative and assemble the pieces. Overall, his movies have a beginning and an end are quite conventional as opposed to a David Lynch or Darren Aranofsky
