Anyone watching the fight tonight?

Happening at 9PM ET. One fighter already contracted COVID in the preliminary bout.

Exhibition: [8 2-minute rounds]
-No knockouts are expected (though one could happen).
-Won't be a winner announced.
-If either man suffers a bad cut, the exhibition will be called off.
-Will not have to wear headgear, and they will wear 12-ounce gloves, rather than the 10-ounce gloves typically used in professional fights.

Basically hard sparring for entertainment not competition.

50 Wins
44 KO's
6 Loses

Roy Jones Jr.: 51 yo; last fought in 2018
66 Wins
47 KO's
9 Loses

Main Card:
Jamaine Ortiz defeats Sulaiman Segawa via TKO, Round 7
Badou Jack defeats Blake McKernan via unanimous decision
Jake Paul defeats Nate Robinson via knockout, Round 2
Mike Tyson and Roy Jones Jr ends in a draw

I've heard that the fight is only eight 2-minute rounds, no knockouts allowed & no declared winner (which sounds like glorified sparring?)

Even though Tyson is my favourite boxer, he took beatings from some rather sub-par fighters at the back-end of his career, over 15 years ago (McBride, Williams, etc) so I can't see his age (nor his weed consumption) making him any sharper/better a fighter? Even without all the rule restrictions....Jones Jr would make mincemeat of him (it pains me to say)

A well-financed farce (but still a 'farce' nonetheless)

reply

Correct, just an exhibition bout like you would have in a typical gym but harder and non-professional competitive type. Weed will most likely make him mellower than his prime 'killer' mode self back in the day. There is all this rap music stuff in between the fights, lol...

reply

Just watched the Badou Jack fight (on the undercard) and I could swear the broadcaster is adding 'woosh' sound FX to the punches?

reply

When is the Tyson fight?

reply

5am (UK time)

reply

Should be very soon after more rap music intermission. Jake just finished the fight so the next one should be Mike.

reply

Should start fairly soon...

reply

Starting now... After the national anthem that is...

reply

Since there is no fans, you can clearly hear the fighters doing the swoosh fx. The fan cheer/clap is sound made though.

Can't believe Jake Paul is whooped Nate Robinson. Lot of hugging and raw rage offense. They seem to be using inner hood street fight method rather than professional-type moves. 2 round TKO. Still more entertaining of the last 2.

reply

No, I'll be busying watching Hallmark Christmas movies.

reply

Which one's?

reply

Earlier I watched A Nashville Christmas Carol and now I'm watching Christmas Waltz.

reply

are these guys fighting on the grandpa circuit?

reply

this is not to be taken seriously.

reply

I've been hearing some crazy betting that tells me otherwise.

reply

I'm watching... no idea what I'm about to see!

reply

not much

reply

Please don’t tell me that at this point in time.

reply

lol

reply

Apparently the judges weren't watching... a draw???

reply

Why the hell does Tyson have a tattoo of Chairman Mao Zedong on his right arm and Che Guevara on his stomach? Is he a communist in hiding?

reply

Some decent hits but overall a bit disappointing. Tyson has the power but is slow and has more stamina. Roy has the flurry of the fists but tires out faster. Most of the time they're hugging themselves and trading soft blows to the stomach. Meh.

reply

what a load of bullshit.

Both fighters choreographed their punches (truly embarrassing to watch) Both have pissed (further) on their careers (and Snoop Dogg needs to shut the hole under his nose)

And the amateurish profanity ruined what little replay value this has to 'regular' audiences (but I guess they're trying to meld rap with boxing) but this fight was worse than wrestling (and twice as staged)

reply

Drugs, profanity, rap, all goes in the black culture dawg. I saw like 2 rappers smoking weed while rapping, progressive culture if you will.

I don't think the hits were choreographed but the hugging/holding, maybe. Way too much of it. Reminds me of Floyd and Pacquiao where Floyd just ran around the ring avoiding any confrontation.
