To say he is schooling actual r&b artists on the genre shows you know nothing or what r&b is, an insult to r&b artists out there right now. Male or female.
Have you listened to RnB lately? Since around 2006 the genre has fallen off big time. It sounds more like pop and electronic dance music. Apart from a few neo-soul artists such as Musiq and Jill Scott, everyone else especially Usher have been releasing material no self respecting RnB star would dare release in the late 90s & early 2000s. I may not be African American, but I can tell genres apart, and to me, much of what is classified as urban music today (including hip hop) to me sounds more like straight undiluted pop.
Timberlake has gone back to that 90s style where the beats and baselines were heavier and the vocals were more soulful. I guess being white and from a huge boy-band, he can take risks with a pop audience that Usher can't. But I remember when his first album came out some media were saying its a competition between him and Usher to be the next MJ. I think 10 years later Timberlake won.
