Probably the best pop R+B singer out today.

I appreciate the 90s vibe of Timberlake's new album. Strange how this skinny white kid is schooling the black 'r&b' stars on how its done... He's not afraid to have soul in his music while everyone else is doing pop and dance.

Yeah, no. He definitely is not. He's a fair r&b artists who got there from the help of other people.

If not him then who? Please dont say usher either.

Strange as it is, why is it alot of the notable R&B albums released lately are from white artists?

Usher will always have that r&b title. I love Justin but he isn't even the best singer in Nsync, Jc was and is far superior. Justin is far more pop than he ever will be r&b. Miguel right now kills it in the R&b genre, genuine soul that Justin's voice has always lacked. He doesn't hold a candle to his voice. To say he is schooling actual r&b artists on the genre shows you know nothing or what r&b is, an insult to r&b artists out there right now. Male or female. I'm a big Justin fan but I grew up with r&b and Justin has always just fell a tad short of that true soul. Some people just don't have it. Justin has had an amazing career and in happy that he was just this cute kid from Nsync and has managed to keep relevance in the industry. But people who truly love r&b know to even mention his name is a joke.

Usher is whack now, and so are a lot of the artists who aren't really pulling their weight and delivering derivative material.

And lets keep it real, they all graduated with honors in MichaelJacksonomics.

Usher is still amazing and always will be. There are plenty of "unknown" r&b artists who don't get the recognition they deserve, but that goes for other genres as well. Like I said I love Justin but soul is something he just doesn't have.

Have you listened to RnB lately? Since around 2006 the genre has fallen off big time. It sounds more like pop and electronic dance music. Apart from a few neo-soul artists such as Musiq and Jill Scott, everyone else especially Usher have been releasing material no self respecting RnB star would dare release in the late 90s & early 2000s. I may not be African American, but I can tell genres apart, and to me, much of what is classified as urban music today (including hip hop) to me sounds more like straight undiluted pop.

Timberlake has gone back to that 90s style where the beats and baselines were heavier and the vocals were more soulful. I guess being white and from a huge boy-band, he can take risks with a pop audience that Usher can't. But I remember when his first album came out some media were saying its a competition between him and Usher to be the next MJ. I think 10 years later Timberlake won.
