he is a rich millionaire from detroit, michigan. he used to think he was a gangbanger and a thug, and now he's a blue-collar cowboy? he clearly has no idea about either lifestyle. his parents were rich as fuck and this dude has been raised with a silver spoon in his mouth his whole life.
That is hilariously wrong. He's had 8 songs reach the chart, an album went to Dimond (no small feat), and his charted songs span almost 2 decades. He's also sold over 26 million albums. His "unmemorable" songs are still constantly played on classic and current rock stations. You don't achieve that if you're a "no talent" that only made their career from a MTV show. Everyone gets a start somewhere, but that wasn't even his start. He'd already had a top 40 hit when he went on TRL. I'll admit that not everyone is going to like his personality, but to deny his place as a music legend is disingenuous. I don't like Madonna, but I'd sound foolish to say she doesn't have any memorable songs
I'll admit, I like his music, but he's definitely the Nickleback of the rap world. Nothing he does is particularly deep lyrically or musically, but he still makes really catchy songs. I suppose it says something about his par writing that his most popular song is actually mostly a sample from Warren Zevons iconic Werewolves of London. He's great party music and jamming in the car, but I'd never listen to him chilling alone. That aside, there is a place for mindless escapism music just like a mindless blockbuster movie that we enjoy for 2 hours then forget. I actually saw Kid Rock in concert when a bunch of friends set up a party bus to take us there...but I literally don't remember Kid taking the stage. It was one of those kind of nights, but evidently I was legendary.
Wow, you're absolutely right. From his Wikipedia page:
Kid Rock was born Robert James Ritchie in Romeo, Michigan, on January 17, 1971, the son of Susan and William Ritchie, who owned multiple car dealerships.[2][3][4] He was raised in his father's large home on extensive property,[2][5] where he regularly helped his family pick apples and care for their horses.
I had no idea and figured that based on his appearance and lyrics like "I'm not straight out of Compton, I'm straight out the trailer" he actually did have a poor, lower class background. Crazy how marketing works. Young me was definitely convinced.
I was surprised to learn he was rich too. He likely has never been to a trailer-park party nor has he ever slept in one. Trailer Park kids threw the best parties their parents were very relaxed.
Yeah I'm still kind of shocked to learn he was grew up rich. He last name is even literally Ritchie to add to the humor. He definitely had the part down and apparently he was acting just as much when he was on MTV as he was in his part in Joe Dirt.
That's funny you say that about trailer parks. The one experience I had partying at a trailer park involved crashing a mini bike into a chain link fence because my legs were too long to properly turn a corner into the the next row of trailers. Good times though.
