Dr. Drew apologizes for downplaying coronavirus over the past two months

Dr. Drew Pinsky on Saturday had a YouTube video take down, posted Thursday, that compiled his various statements downplaying coronavirus and spreading disinformation since the beginning of February. But the video has gone viral on Twitter. Dr. Drew was also featured in a Daily Show compilation video posted Friday of Fox News personalities downplaying coronavirus. On Saturday, the former Loveline and Celebrity Rehab doctor apologized in a Periscope video. “My early comments about equating coronavirus with influenza were wrong," he said. "They were incorrect. I was part of a chorus that was saying that. And we were wrong. And I want to apologize for that. I wish I had gotten it right, but I got it wrong.”

YouTube reinstates viral video of Dr. Drew downplaying coronavirus that he had removed claiming copyright infringement

https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2020/04/dr-drew-coronavirus-supercut-restored-to-youtube-after-copyright-takedown/

Last Thursday, YouTuber "Dr Droops" posted a nearly five-minute supercut of Dr. Drew Pinsky downplaying coronavirus and spreading disinformation over the past two months. (A two-minute version of the video was posted to Twitter on Saturday.) The video going viral prompted Dr. Drew to apologize on Saturday, but only after having YouTube remove the video on copyright grounds. The video was reinstated on Sunday. Dr. Drew also threatened a Twitter user for spreading the video in a since-deleted tweet. "Infringing copywrite (sic) is a crime," he tweeted on Saturday. "Hang onto your retweets. Or erase to be safe." In an updated description added to the video, "Dr Droops" urged viewers not to antagonize Dr. Drew: "While I personally have not observed any threatening language or behavior, Dr. Drew has stated that he and his family have been receiving threats. I ask all of you to please use restraint. It is perfectly acceptable to be upset or angry. It is not acceptable to threaten the safety of Dr. Drew or his family. Ever. Plus, everyone needs to be staying six feet apart anyway!"
