racism?

i don't really hate her, in fact i like her but there is something she said in her site that bothers me....there is this line that she is afraid to be asian. I mean what's wrong on being asian? check out the last few lines in her first paragraph...just wondering.....

Q: Dear Danica,
I've heard that you are part Asian, either Korean or Japanese, or both. Is that true? I've always wondered what your ethnic background is. What about your name? Where does it come from? Thanks!

Danica Answers: Hi! You're not the firsts one to ask me this: I've been asked if I were Asian, Hawaiian, Greek, etc. The truth is, I'm a big mix of Western Europe. I'm mostly Portuguese (this is my mom's side), via the Azores and Madeira Islands. These are both groups of islands in the Atlantic ocean settled by the Portuguese in 1418. This means that my mom's side is probably a fair mix of Portuguese and native Islander! On my dad's side, I'm part Scottish (hence "McKellar"), and a little each of: German, Spanish, French, and Dutch. No Asian, I'm afraid. Although you should see baby pictures, I really do look Asian!
The name "Danica" (pronounced with the same inflection as "Monica" or "Erica") comes from a book called "Name Your Baby" that my parents bought before I was born. The name seems to be natively found in Denmark and also in most Slavic countires (although in Slavic nations, it's pronounced "Don'-eetz-sa") and it means, "Morning Star." That's why I named my production company "Morning Starlight Productions, " since I guess a morning star would "produce" morning starlight. :)

You misunderstood what she was saying. When someone says a comment like "No asian, I'm afraid" it is like saying I'm sorry. Like an expression of regret. It reads to me like she wished that she did have some Asian in her! Just trying to clarify that for you. I don't think that Danica is racist at all. But she is beautiful beyond belief!!

yah maybe i misunderstood some of those details. Hah! silly me! you you mean like "she's afraid"...like "she's afraid that she didn't have one"?

Well regarding the subject, well i just indicated "racism" just to catch the attention of the readers. I don't really think that she's a racist at all. ReaLLY

You sound like a very intelligent person! You certainly caught my attention. I've heard plenty of people use the expression I'm afraid, like 'there is no more pizza in the lunch room I'm afraid.' That is what I thought she meant by it.

I agree but too bad because when people talk about "asian" their minds are stuck with Chinese, Japanese, Korean, or Taiwanese. Most People don't know that there are countries called Philippines, India, Israel or Vietnam. Or Maybe they know that are countires like what i mentioned above but they don't consider people living here as "asians". Most define asian as people with *beep* eyes.

That is a shame too. If people could only open their eyes, minds and hearts to the big wonderful world and the melting pot of people that live here. So much beauty and intelligence and wonder. It's a shame that there are so many closed minded people.
