Opinions on his song "America"?

I rank it among my Top 5 favorite Neil Diamond songs and consider it to be his last truly great single.

I prefer his early works from 60s and early 70s. I remember "America" being a huge hit commercially as well as culturally and it was used in a lot of public spectacle events and I remember hearing it at the Los Angeles Olympics when I attended the gold medal for Soccer as well as the track and field semi-finals. So in a lot of ways the song never lost its luster or place in time as a significant popular song.

I agree.

Mindless songs pandering to fake patriotism can never be great.

Agreed, although God Bless the USA is an obvious exception.

I wish the guy who did the whistle at the beginning of the song....

"Far....(whistle from the crowd)....we have traveled far...."

...would come forward and make himself known. It was obviously a studio version of the song....but they wanted to make it sound like it was live, so they had a guy whistle off in the distance on cue, haaa!

Leftist propoganda.
