"Anne Hathaway Is Done Trying to Please"

The NYT has a new podcast called "The Interview" and I think she's their inaugural guest. Before the interview, the host introduced the subject by talking about the hatred directed toward Hathway which I never understood. She always struck me as a better-than-average actress -- and incredibly beautiful. I appreciate her famously tryhard work ethic. Not long into the interview, however, I began to sort of sense why the Internet went after her: She's kind of annoying. She's overly excitable in a theater kid way and at one point does an impression of Adam Sandler, who she regards as an "under-rated genius" (some might find this "adorkable"). She helps direct the discussion at herself, but says she doesn't want to talk about herself for fear it's narcissistic. Her boundaries are not well-defined; she comes off sounding evasive and inauthentic. She says she's a nerd and into New Age nonsense. She often slips into therapy-speak.

Did she show her cooter?

reply

Maybe. At one point she talks about wanting to do something naughty, so the interviewer tells her to do it "off the record."

reply

I’m just hearing about this now. I’ve always liked her.
