Immensely Talented
I never thought I’d say when I first heard him or saw him but after all those years of enjoying his music. He is really special and massively talented. Way ahead of his time.

shareAgreed, he was a fine singer, writer and performer (his public tough guy, punk rocker look in the 80s was seriously one of the best looks outside of heavy metal at the time)
He had quite a few good songs and several big hits
Frankly it's a bummer he took a bad spill on his motorbike and he struggled with recovery for so long, but he made his mark
Always loved his music. But it took me a while to realize how truly talented he is.
shareFew?
Yea but his fault. Had he not been so wreckless he wouldve been a major icon. Sort of went halfway.
He had already made his mark and had started to decline by the late 80's. He is a major icon. Maybe we should be thankful he never became mainstream American top 40.
shareHe had nine U.S. Top 40 hits. But I have a feeling you are referring to a style rather than the numbers.
shareOkay, I listened to punk in the 80's, and I wasn't sure how widespread was Idol's popularity. But yeah, he never watered down his style.

Did he write his songs? They are indeed good, and his voice is one of the best ever IMO. "Eyes Without A Face" never gets old for me and I spin it regularly even these days.
