The acoustic re-working was good (though it eliminated the ending coda), but the original is still the best.

The original. It's not even close. Unplugged version seems like a bad cover of his own song.

reply

The original!

In my opinion, there is absolutely no passion in the unplugged version.

Unplugged versions were the most bizarrely overrated excuses for entertainment this side of Kim Kardashian and Ray J's sex tape

Never understood the appeal of the Unplugged Layla, but having a modest ego, I figured it was me who was missing something.
Now I see it's the fun of hearing a well-known song put in a different context. Add the popularity of Eric at the time, and it was a snowball's avalanche, but it was mystifying to me.
The unplugged is fine, and the original is only as good as one want's it to be, but unplugged in no way is better.

The unplugged version appealed to a lot of old farts who by then had lost their mojo and to kids who never had mojo to begin with. It's a vastly inferior song without Duane Allman's slide and the piano coda.

I love both versions...as a big fan of acoustic guitar music, I'd probably choose the "Unplugged" version. I love the solo and it brings back a lot of nostalgia from the early 90s ( I love so much of the 90s-era music). I can't believe "Unplugged" is just about 30 years old now...what a great, great recording that was.

reply

The unplugged version because I didn't like the ending section of the original.

reply

Oh JFC. You have one of rock's greatest guitarists doing an a cappella version of his own classic. Ridiculous. That's why they invented guitars.

reply

The original rock version for me, but the unplugged re imagining of it was very good, and gave the song a new life.
