Sick of him

This guy ALWAYS plays the same part over and over again and I feel like he totally lowered himself to play in US movies. I mean Derailed was crap, Ocean's twelve sucked, now he's doing a Cronenberg movie which is great but it's still the same bad-yet-seductive-guy type of role and it seems like no matter how hard he tries, he cannot get rid of his accent which is to me what a foreign actor should do first.

Comment please, I am open to yr reactions.
Just don't be rude OK ? lol

You are right - he often plays the same kind of role. But not always. I suggest you watch more of his movies first, before you judge about Vincents choice of roles and/or his ability.

And for his accent - I am quite sure, he doesn't have any if he don't want to have it. But in all his international movies he was meant to be a french person (only in 'Birthday Girl' he was meant to be russian). And a french person mostly has a french accent. So what's the matter?

As for 'Oceans Twelve', that was indeed not a very good movie. But Vinz was great in it, and he left a big impression on many people. And that role for example was different to that in 'Derailed' and also to that in 'Eastern Promises'. It wasn't a real, typical baddie either.

By the way, most actors/actresses are typecast the same roles most of the time - so why is it a bad thing in Vincents case to often play similar roles? I don't get this.

I am dreading exactly what you described, Amina. I would hate to see him reduced into a standard Euro baddie in all the American movies he makes. I didn't like Derailed much, either. I enjoyed Vincent's performance in Ocean's Twelve, easily the best thing in the movie. I haven't seen Ocean's Thirteen, because I don't think Vinz's short performance is worth going to the cinema, I'll see it when it comes on DVD one day. I did love Blueberry, it is a brilliant movie and I think Vincent spoke excellent english in it. I've seen Blueberry about 10 times and each viewing makes me love it more.

But I have high hopes for Eastern Promises. Cronenberg just can't do wrong, I like his movies. Viggo Mortensen is always good, I like him. He's both intelligent AND good-looking, not to mention multitalented. So, with Cronenberg and Mortensen, Vinz is sure in a good company and will hold his own just beautifully, you'll see. Or at least I'll see, wild horses couldn't keep me away from the cinema . EP opens in Belgium in November.

I'm absolutely thrilled by the idea of Sa Majéste Minor, damn it looks fine! There Vincent sure is not your standard baddie, I can tell you that much . Rrrrrr I love his looks there, those little horns are so naughty. Minor opens in Belgium in October.

Have you seen some of Vincent's French movies, Amina? In those he is not always the same. Try La Haine, it's a cult classic. Or L'Élève, certainly not Vincent's regular role. I also suggest Dobermann, Agents Secrets, The Brotherhood of The Wolves, The Crimson Rivers and Read My Lips

Me too, no doubt. But I don't think that will happen, as he chooses roles carefully. Vincent himself said in an interview 'I could do a lot more movies in Hollywood, but I do not, because most of the offers are stupid. Standard european baddies, I don't want to play.'

Not exact the words from the interview, but the sense. Personally I have faith in his intelligence and choice of movies.

Although we don't have seen 'Eastern Promises' yet - it seems quite sure, that Kirill is far away from being the 'boring standard baddie from Europe'.

Ditto what Hexenkoenig and MadameCassel said.

Vincent the actor is more than just protraying a "badddie". He has the most expressive eyes and his character in Oceans12 stole that movie.

I am French so I first heard of him in his French movies. Can't wait to see EP BUT after that, another, well actually two other movies will be in theaters and will be about Mesrine, one of the most famous French criminals, and guess what:
Cassel plays the title role.

Of course he has played a lot of types of bad guys but the problem is they're still bad guys. I'd like to see him doing something totally different and I truly hope he will avoid being typecast.

Wish him luck.

LMAO@"Mme Cassel" as a username, you're a great fan aren't you ? lol

Oh, that wasn't clear from your first post - forget my suggestion to watch more of his movies...

And he will be great as Mesrine.

Hm, I still don't get it. It doesn't matter if he plays a villain - it matters what kind of villain he plays. And Vincent never plays the dumb bullie, he always takes care there is something 'special' to them (it is a bit difficult to explain in english, but I think you know what I mean).

There is another actor who springs to mind during this discussion - Alan Rickman. He often played villains and still does. But that didn't harm his career and/or credibility in any way. Same with Gary Oldman.

Then you must be looking very, very forward to 'MINOR' - as I do! I will even go to Belgium to see it, as it seems that the movie will not be shown in Germany.

He will. I am absolutely sure about that.

Amina, I didn't know you're French, either. So you have seen Vincent's movies and you know he can do a variety of roles. I have no problem with him playing the Mesrine role, since Mesrine is a notorious character in France - some even fear the movie will glorify or praise his deeds and a cult status has been branded on the movie even before it has finished shooting. I am sure Vincent will do well in the role, and it will not be the regular "euro-baddie" role.

Did you like Blueberry? Vinz is not bad in it (I mean not a BAD GUY ), it is a very straightforward, old-fashioned revenge western. Okay, a bit trippy, or a lot, but still very enjoyable and quite conservative when it comes to the plot.

I would hate to see him fall into a specific role time and time again, and by this we all mean the usual euro-baddie role. He can do so much better.

Look what happened to Peter Stormare. Great, great actor in his Swedish movies, and what has he made in the USA? Armageddon, playing a drunken cosmonaut. Minority Report, playing the world's most discusting, possibly drunken eye doctor. In Playing God he once again portrayed a Russian guy. In Bad Company he plays a drunken Russian mobster. In Tuxedo he is a mad scientist. Bad Boys II, again a drunken Russian mobster. I mean, geeeez, see the pattern...? During the last ten years, Stormare has been wonderful in Prison Break, WindTalkers, Dancer in The Dark, Hitler: The Rise of Evil, and positevely trippy Satan in Constantine. And then he has made a ton of laughable, stupid roles. And why is it that a foreign actor is so often made a Russian character? Americans hear a foreign accent and they can't tell a French or a German accent from a Russian one, so they make all characters Russian, just in case? Blah. Vincent's worst role so far was in Birthday Girl, also playing a Russian, totally unbelievable and stupid role. I've seen the movie once and don't plan to see it again, I hate it.

Ah, the name MadameCassel... we all have our daydreams, don't we

Same with Tcheky Karyo. Excellent in La Femme Nikita as well as others. But soon as he hit Hollywood...
