A movie that depicts O.J. Simpson as innocent of murder will potentially release later this year.

Owen Wilson was offered the role of attorney Douglas McCann but told the director that “if you think I’m going to take the lead role in a movie about how O.J. didn’t do it, you’ve got to be kidding me”

reply

Good for him.

I wonder if there are still people out there who believe in that one conspiracy theory about O.J.'s son Jason being the one who really committed the murders:

The dog did it!

Meh, Owen Wilson is a coward. He's an actor. His job is to act.

reply

An actor isn't obliged to be in a movie whose message or content they disagree with though. Case in point, I remember watching Gene Wilder interviewed circa 2008 and he was asked why he wasn't in modern films, and one of his reasons is because he felt there was too much profanity.

I'm sure there's more than a few instances of actors not wanting to lend themselves to films that clash with their personal convictions.

reply

I suppose so. But a great test of one's acting ability would be to play a character whom you dislike and completely disagree with, yet so absorb the role that it doesn't matter.

reply

Both of y'all make great points.

reply

Yeah but if an actor finds a movie's premise objectionable enough to turn down involvement, they probably don't care about what role they're offered in it even if the role meshed with their real-life beliefs.

reply

Sorry, it's his choice, but it sounds like self-righteous posturing. There's nothing wrong with showing both sides. I think some of these actors need to STFU and just act.

reply

Honestly, I'm very skeptical that this story is even true. It's doubtful that after 30 years of nonstop "OJ did it" propaganda, that Hollyweird would suddenly be interested in greenlighting a film about OJ's innocence. Owen Wilson's grandstanding about turning down a starring role in this supposed film idea also sounds made up.

reply

Good point. I don't think there'd be much of an audience for this. The public hates OJ.

And could this also be publicity for an upcoming movie starring Owen Wilson?

reply

"The public hates OJ."

That's mostly true for the white American public in specific. Honestly I think this film idea was just a troll post.

reply

Really dumb take, Onan.

reply

Good! The truth will finally be revealed...

Goldman did it - murder suicide.

reply

They should call it

If I, uh, didn't do it. Yeah, that's it.
