8 times married? Was he insane?

Obviously he couldn't get along with women or treat them right that they kept leaving him (or he asked them to leave).

But 8 times saying "I do"? He must have been insane.

Rooney was allegedly a notoriously difficult and unpleasant person, which starkly contrasts with the wholesome characters he portrayed on screen. I’ve heard him described as being very nasty and rude to those he worked with, and that he had serious gambling and substance use issues. He also faced allegations of inappropriate behavior with a much younger actress, Elizabeth Taylor I believe it was.

So I think a better question would be; why did any woman agree to marry him? This is especially puzzling in the case of his eighth wife. By the time he had seven failed marriages, and his reputation was well-known, one would expect them to steer clear of him.

But to answer your question directly, I don’t think he was insane, but he sounds like he was a complete asshole.

Jesus loved him though.

He was visited by an angel once.

I BELIEVE HIS ROLE IN THE NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM IS VERY CLOSE TO THE REAL PERSON.

I forgot he was in that but I think you're right, he was a total crank in that one.

AT 86...I THINK HE JUST READ HIS LINES IN HIS OWN VOICE AND DIDN'T WORRY ABOUT ANY ACTING BULLSHIT.

Reminds me of Matthew Fox's 'Brooder' in Bone Tomahawk; 'Smart men don't get married.'
