Should the Oscars be nervous about Joaquin Phoenix calling out the Academy in his Best Actor acceptance speech?

The Joker star's recent speech at the BAFTAs criticizing the British film industry for its lack of diversity should have the Film Academy worried, says Violet Kim. Phoenix is expected to win the Best Actor award on Sunday. "Phoenix has been a formidable and unpredictable presence at the podium, going beyond the routine expressions of gratitude in his acceptance speeches to chastise the audience for their hypocrisy on climate change or to draw attention to the lack of the diversity at the very awards ceremony that just honored him," says Kim. "Though he may preach and provoke, he’s been self-deprecating and self-aware about it."

He did exactly what you're talking about. I love the guy but his speech was offsetting.

Everyone dresses up and talks about how great Hollywood is and then you profess to know something.
Hes a disconnected fuck.

He should be addressing paedophilia and Satanism in Hollywood (and ''above'')

Hmm...what I heard was him calling out all the rich folks hypocrisy that preaches instead of does

Unless most of us are flying jets everywhere for the weekend I don't think he seemed to be talking to the average joe

I didn't watch the Oscars because, as a Twitter friend put it, one Democrat Convention every four years is more than enough. But there's the clip circulating where he's talking about the dairy industry where we think it's not some form of supremacy to artificially inseminate a cow, then take her calf from her, then take the milk from her that was supposed to be for the calf. Was that part of his speech, and whenever he said it, was he serious?
