Isn't it sad that she was only known for "Jagged Little Pill"?
An album she did in her early 20s? It seems after that album, no one really cared about her anymore and she tanked in popularity and sales.

sharePERSONALLY,I OWN 3 OR 4 ALBUMS AND ALWAYS THINK OF HER AS GOD.
shareWhy was JLP so popular though? Was it because nothing at the time like it was ever made by a female artist? Groundbreaking?
shareSOMETHING LIKE THAT.
share"ever made by a female artist"
Glen Ballard co-wrote the songs, produced the album and played guitar. So it is really her album?
She was Ballard's protégé for sure.

shareGreat songs.
Period.
I remember buying Jagged Little Pill at a thrift shop and I liked Alanis Morrissette's voice and her songs and then I bought two other albums of hers and liked them as well. Most recently Alanis Morrissette released the cd The Collection which has all of the singles of Jagged Little Pill and an awesome cover of Seal's Crazy. It is a shame that she hasn't been seen much anymore but at the time Jagged Little Pill came out Alanis Morrissette was everywhere and it proved that she had grown up and left her days of appearing on You Can't Do That On Television behind. But given the right promotion she could make a comeback with a new album and sound
shareWhat are you known for?
shareI don't think this was a jab at her.
shareMaybe not an intentional jab but to call a person’s career sad after they sold 30M+ records is the only sad thing about this thread.
It suggests someone has to be in a constant state of number 1 status to matter at all. It’s absurd.
I felt that they were saying that she was talented and deserved better, but it's sad that the best that she sold was that one album in her 20s.
shareI chalk it up to having different ideas on sad and what makes someone successful. JLP is one of the top 20 best selling albums of all time. Neither Elvis nor Madonna even make the list. So, is that sad? You guys think so. I do not.
shareIndeed. Some people are just oversensitive these days. If you compare her to other artists, alot of other artists had follow-up successes with their subsequent albums (Madonna, Mariah, Cher, Whitney, etc). Alanis never really had that other than maybe "Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie". Her only big album was JLP, so she's really a "one-album" wonder.
shareNahhh, I don't think it's sad. 'Jagged Little Pill' was like a perfect album. It was such a new and unique sound, and it had so much passion and angst and personal authenticity in almost every song. She reached heights with that album that very few artists ever will. I think it's arguably the greatest 'alternative rock' album ever made. Top 5, for sure.
I was 14 when it came out, and only listened to it initially because my 16 year old sister played it obsessively. After awhile, I think I rocked out to it more than she did, lol. Alanis is the shit!
This was her pre-Jagged: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V9TXQPEJLOE
shareOK, so she started out trying to be a pop star. I mean, she was a kid then, and coming off of a Nickelodeon kids show. Pop was probably the only genre anyone would invest in to produce for her at that time. Jagged Little Pill was her finally finding her voice as a young, angry and angsty adult with something to say.
shareThat "Plastic" video was shot in 1991. She was born in 1974. So, that made her either 16 or 17 at the time. Isn't it creepy that she's surrounded by men and dancing in a sexually suggestive way in the water fountain? Would never happen today.
shareWell... yeah, kinda. I'm just not sure what your point is. Is this thread about whether or not it's sad that she never lived up to or topped 'Jagged Little Pill?' Or is it about her arguably being sexually exploited as a teen Pop "star?"
I'm just not sure what we're discussing, at this point.
