Owes her career to Michael

Janet wouldn't have got anywhere near a recording contract without Michael.

Maybe. Maybe not.

reply

Maybe but I love her music even more

and yet she did more with the opportunity than he did. He's a failure as an actor and any music he wrote was awful and childish. Plus singing like he had Tourettes? Offensive.

I wouldn't say that's accurate. You're forgetting that the Jacksons (the kids I mean) were brought up to be stars. It's not like Michael went out and achieved fame and Janet road in on his coattails. I don't think her success relied on his at all because the Jacksons (the parents) still had relationships with those in the industry. Several of the kids had recording contracts and that's all that you needed at the time to get your foot in the door with a new artist like Janet. After that, it was all in the hands of the label and MTV, neither of which required Michael to be a successful solo artist. If it were that simple, Janet wouldn't have been the only other one to make it.

Now had the Jackson 5 never been successful, Janet would've had a harder time. That's assuming the family's contacts in the industry originate from that. If they were actually due to some other circumstance, like extended family being IN the industry or something, then even the Jackson 5's success wasn't really needed for Janet.
