He seems to be universally hated by many in the wrestling business.

Why is that? Especially from Bret Hart.

reply

Everyone is jealous that he has the largest arms in the world.

He becamer a superstar but was a bad wrestler

reply

you know wrestling is fake, do you?

a "good" wrestler is a popular one, so hes definitely not a bad one

reply

he had 1 move...the leg drop,

reply

Wrestling was never about the moves. It was about drawing money. The guy who drew the most money is the best.

Unfortunately, the younger generation of wrestlers don't care about money they only care about star ratings. So, practically none of them are a draw.

reply

That's your opinion. The "best" is subjective, as it is in any form of entertainment. Justin Bieber has sold infinitely more records than the Ramones, but you damn sure won't get me to say he's the "best" of the two.

reply

He had a strangle hold at the top for a long time and refused to put over many younger wrestlers like Bret Hart. Just look at the end of Wrestlemania IX. Bret drops the belt to the top heel just so Hogan can swoop in and claim the title. He is arguably the greatest wrestler of all time, but it's widely known that he abused his creative control on many occasions.

reply

He did the same at WCW too

reply

Yup. The NWO was the hottest thing in wrestling and that storyline should have peaked with Starrcade 1997. Sting didn't wrestle for a full year and it had to be one of the most anticipated PPV's and matches of all time. Sting clearly should have had a clean finish beating Hogan, but again, Hogan didn't like that so they came up with the fast count which the ref Patrick botched resulting in disaster. Then we continue to get more and more NWO for the next couple years. Even on Hogan's exit from WCW, he invoked his creative control for Jarret to drop the belt to him.

nWo was not going to end when Sting won. It would have went on forever if:
Souled out didn't suck
nWo Nitro takeover didn't suck
and
Goldberg didn't injury and bury everyone on his way to the top (and actually learned how to work, and cut a promo). Once Jericho and Raven saw such a shitty wrestler get a mega push and keep them on the mid card, they left along with Benoit and Eddie.

I think the story line/angle peaked in 97 Starrcade and had reached its potential by that point. Sting barely had the belt and then ends up joining the NWO Wolfpac a few months later which made little sense along with Giant and Luger. They needed to create new heels for Sting instead of just putting the belt back on Hogan. Goldberg was white hot in 98 and I agree, other deserving wrestlers that had put time in like those you mentioned were not given opportunities, resulting in lots of talent looking for an exit. Of course Goldberg losing the belt at Starrcade 98 to Nash and then the infamous finger poke later on didn't help either.
