Mary Tyler Moore or Rhoda?

Which sitcom do you like better?

reply

Mary Tyler Moore is a classic. Rhoda lost popularity after she married Joe even though I still liked the show.

(Your post scared me. I thought she died.)

I thought this would be a RIP post too.

Liked RHODA better even though it had its ups and downs.

Valerie Harper just entered an hospice. I have that same fear when I see elderly people trending, too.

I just read the show's ratings dropped when the producers got rid of Joe. Rhoda deserved to be happily married.

I'm so glad she made i to her 80th birthday. I was afraid she wasn't going to when I read the news of her failing health a month ago. So sad.

MTM

MTM was a classic and funny for all seven seasons. Even when they lost cast members, Rhoda and Phyllis, the show adjusted and gave more to Sue Ann Nivens and Ted/Georgette. I can honestly say I laugh at some seventh season episodes, the time when a lot of shows are starting to lose steam.

I know some fans thought it became the "Ted/Georgette" show. But they were funny characters. MTM stuck with the tried and true and didn't bring in a revolving door of new characters.

Rhoda on the other hand, didn't make it as far. The first season was funny and the show hit its stride in the second season. But then, the writing was all over the place. They brought in so many"second string" characters, didn't flesh them out and then wrote them out. I recently bought the fourth season and it reminded me why I stopped watching halfway through the fourth season. Some episodes were not just unfunny, they were painfully unfunny. Apparently the last few eps were never broadcast. They were included in the DVD. I watched them and I understood why!
