My first memory of Shelley Duvall was from when I was little, watching video tapes mom rented for me of Fairy Tale Theater, where Shelley hosted and sometimes even starred in these lovely, live-action productions of popular fairy tales. She was such a sweetheart in those.
I didn't know her major claim to fame was playing the mom in "The Shining" until just a few years ago, since I've never seen it and am not a Stephen King fan.
