The film is getting terrible reviews and what's hurting is to see how people are talking about Faye.
From the AZ Central review who is titled... "'The Bye Bye Man' is scary... for Faye Dunaway's career": The Bye Bye Man” is one of those unoriginal, unintelligent horror movies studios dump into theaters, seen and quickly forgotten. There are a couple of scary things about it, though: appearances by Carrie-Anne Moss and Faye Dunaway. Their agents must be terrified. From the Variety review:And I haven’t even mentioned the moment when Faye Dunaway catches fire! Looking as if she was carved out of wax, Dunaway plays the now-ancient wife of a man who, in 1969, was invaded by the spirit of the Bye Bye Man and blew away his neighbors and family members with a shotgun. From The Wrap review:Faye Dunaway, who gets to stand on a stairwell and regally bellow “Leave!” but not much else. (If this screen legend is counting on a “What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?”-style late-career horror comeback, it’ll have to wait.) From Twitter:The most frightening part of #TheByeByeMan is watching Faye Dunaway enter the late Joan Crawford "Trog" era phase of her career.
However (fortunately!), there are some positive things. The New York Daily News wrote:The real pleasure is the rare appearance by Oscar winner Faye Dunaway, who plays as a woman who may know how to defeat this spirit. From the Hollywood Reporter review:Notable supporting appearances by the lovely Faye Dunaway as Larry Redmon’s surviving widow
Regarding the clip of Faye's scene, I don't think she is the one to blame at all. From all the clips of the film I've seen and the reviews I read, the film seems clearly to be poorly written and there is not much an actress of Faye's stature can do about it. Faye did not deserve this. The good thing about the dreadful Fugazzi thing was that it was so dreadful nobody saw it. I think I will see the film (or at least Faye's scene) althought it's no longer released in France...
