And the world just got a little colder and darker...(RIP)

Burt Bacharach just died, King of Feel Good music and sound of the Swinging Sixties. Even worse than him dying is that there's absolutely no one today of any talent or skill to carry on his legacy.

Man, that's sad news... He provided the soundtrack for my early childhood. I associate his music with the late '60s and early '70s more than any of the era's rock bands, because my parents were in their mid-30s when they had me and preferred Easy Listening to the Stones or Led Zeppelin.

Surely Lizzo can fill his shoes. I mean, she's a woman of color and she's body-positive, right? Counts for WAY more than talent these days.

Yes, be a troll and say something like that, when his most famous collaborator was Dionne Warwick. You probably have no idea who Burt Bacharach was and are just another troll from God knows where who spends all of their free time waiting for topics to trend so you can post divisive comments designed to derail and agitate. T

So, I just put you on my ignore list. Have a nice day.

Now, back to talking about the legacy of Burt Bacharach...

reply

My absolute favorite is “I Say a Little Prayer”. Aretha Franklin version and Dionne’s.

reply

Troll or not, he's got a point. The vast majority of pop stars nowadays (including Lizzo) can never come close to the genius of Burt Bacharach.

reply

Agree Bacharach was a genius.

That being said, there are some great classic pop composers still among us: David Foster, Paul Williams, Carole King, Paul Simon, Dolly Parton, Paul McCartney, Elton John

reply

LOL. S/he ignores me and I haven't ever even seen one of their posts... No great loss.

reply

Lizzo has a decent voice, I only heard her sing a carol. Don't be insulting. But I do agree, she could lose some weight regarding her health, but it's her choice.

RIP 😔

An absolute legend in the popular music industry. RIP Burt Bacharach.

reply

I just watched a show featuring his music last weekend and they interviewed him too. I hadn't realized he wrote so many of my childhood favorites. R.I.P.

reply

The most sophisticated pop song writer ever. The melodies & chord progressions he came up with for his songs were simply phenomenal. No matter who was doing the song, you could tell it was Bacharach that wrote it.

RIP Burt.

reply

Yes. His music was the textbook definition of "soulful." It hit you in such a way that it left you feeling very mellow, romantic, nostalgic, thoughtful or just plain happy. The first song I thought of was "What the World Needs Now is Love" precisely because hearing that song makes you want what it says it's talking about.

So true, I know Richard Carpenter, Dionne, and ex wife Angie are heartbroken. Timeless tunes! I did not know he had married again for the fourth time. I thought Angie was his his first spouse instead of second wife. I just found out , as a young person he grew dissatisfied with learning classical piano, but didn't want to hurt his mom.

Quite a writer and a Legend on the Easy Listening stations…High regards to him.

94 years is a good run, good for him.

reply

I hope I make it halfway there.

We will go all the way there and a thousand miles more, keep all hands on deck, we own this sea👍

never heard of this cat, what's a famous song he sings?

reply

Google him.

reply

You’ll be busy for a couple of hours if you google that Gent!

reply

He was a composer, not a singer...Here's just one of many, many famous songs he (co)wrote!
