Mädchen is not a name, it's a gender denomination = girl in german. It's like calling Mr. Pitt "Boy Pitt"... I guess her parents hated her or they were just illiterate.

I actually think it's kinda cute, and it fits her. But I understand what you mean.

Maybe she changed it herself, cos her former name had been Debbie or something like that. No chance of a career w/ a name like that. Though it could've been her parents too - it says in her bio that they "encouraged" (=pushed) her. :)

a search for the name "Colleen" seems to generate quite a few results -
and that just comes from the Irish word 'cailín', which means "girl". must all those Colleens have illiterate/spiteful parents too?

But this is not a case of "derived of", it's the exact same German word for "girl" (which by the way no American could pronounce right anyway :-D )
