It's a good question.

But I know what I think because my mother asked the same when my father died of the same illness.

I replied because his work on this earth was done. He earned a break and had probably achieved everything a man could. Maybe Patrick is needed elsewhere now as he has done his work on Earth. My father achieved so much in his life and I like to think, as a Spiritualist, that Dad passed over when he did to pave the way for the rest of us!

He's probably up there now growing a beautiful garden for when our time comes. I don't mind if people do not believe in an afterlife but Patrick did and so do I. Not because I need to but because I have seen too much evidence to the contrary.

I've always heard the expression"The good die young". God must have had other plans for Patrick. And I know they will be great, whatever they may be.

I always remember the true story of The Ghost of Flight 401. The plane crashed into the Everglades and the pilot died. His ghost kept appearing on other airlines and his voice was even caught on one flight's data recorder - he was warning a pilot his rear engine was on fire.

Lots of crew and passengers saw him on different flights. It transpired that after flight 401 crashed, parts of fuselage and galley equipment was still usable and it was put into other planes after the salvage operation.

Those were the planes he was appearing on! I think you can read about it online if you Google The Ghost of Flight 401. Interesting account!

I always say that when someone dies young that they had too much talent and the world wasn't ready for them yet. They came, did what they needed to and left. That's the way I see it.

Don't forget friends that the Bible says "Time and chance happeneth to them all," meaning we're all subject to the whims of fate; it doesn't necessarily mean God was somehow involved when a person gets sick
