shareI don't get the same take on this. Kids are very private. I also sing - not
professionally, or with any great distinction - very well and I was extremely
shy about letting people hear me (especially my parents). My mom had no idea
I could sing until well past 15. And she can't sing. Can you imagine how
intimidating it would be to be a teen who could sing whose mother is
BARBRA STREISAND??
As for his waiting until his late 40s to sing, that's on HIM! He had the
money, resources and connections to have forged a career when he was
younger (like the untalented Janet Jackson), but chose to basically do nothing
(exactly what IS his "career", anyway?).
I think Gould sings pleasantly. Sure, Streisand overpraised him at her
concert, but she's a proud Jewish mother, for heaven's sake.

I have many friends who had hidden talents (one is an incredible writer) that they did not reveal to anyone - including their parents / family members - until much later in life, way into adulthood. It's their personal choices, and their comfort level.

I guess you could call her "talented", if brandishing an attitude is a talent.

Yes. There is absolutely NO signature to Jackson's work whatsoever. She has
a tiny, tinny voice, hops up and down with a headset (or marches, depending upon
the video). Unfortunately, being a "Jackson", and part of the 1980s
MTV generation where a no-talent can be a star simply based on sharply
edited music videos paved the way for her - and Brittney Spears, and a host
of other pop tarts.
It has alternately annoyed me and amused me to know that genuinely talented
singers and dancers from Broadway or elsewhere have waited on tables, singing
their lungs out (I've seen them here in little theaters in L.A.), hoping for
a break they'll probably never get. But "singers" like Jackson keep putting
out mindlessly over-produced junk with a thimble full of talent.
I can understand if you believe she cannot SING, but she is a FANTASTIC performer and dancer. All you have to do is watch her perform Rhythm Nation! Hell, all of the dancing she does in all of those videos! (RN, Alright, Etc). The whole RN was so groundbreaking because of the issues she touched on (racism, sexism, world hunger, abuse, sexuality, etc). She wrote the album with Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. How can you see ALL of that and say she is talentless? I can understand you prefering broadway singing, but to call her talantless? Michael cannot really song any better than her. Would you call him talentless???

I'm not trolling there; simply made a point about her in a Streisand
thread. JJ is a joke to me, and that many would label her an "icon" is
further proof of the dumbing down of American taste.
I am a fan of both and YOU brought up JJ on your own accord, so, no, I will NOT go to HER BOARD. What do I need to go OVER THERE for when YOU brought her up HERE?! Nobody asked you to down a celeb so you could uplift another one. That was all YOUR doing.
